What we wanted to test

Can a website open on a film that you drive with your own scroll, and still work on any phone? FORGE is a fictional strength gym in Monaco, invented for the test. The brand, the athletes and the gym do not exist: every image was generated with AI (Higgsfield Seedance 2.0), and the site says so.

How it works

The opening film follows a cloud of chalk as you scroll down, then a barbell loops behind the class schedule and a sprint at dawn breaks up the page. The whole site is one hand-written HTML file, with no framework, so it can be moved or re-hosted anywhere.

What we learnt

Scroll-driven video is easy to break. AI video files carry too few keyframes for a browser to jump to any moment, so the film froze until we re-encoded it with a keyframe every few frames. iPhones show nothing until a video has played once, so each film is started and paused on load. Weaker Android phones stuttered on large jumps, so the scrubbing moves in small steps. Those fixes now go into every site we build with film.
